2011-2012 TEAMS
Thunderbird Select Basketball is comprised of boys teams in each of four grade levels: 5th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade & 8th grade. We compete in the WesCo Youth Basketball League (WYBL). This is the program's 5th year competing in the WYBL.
2011-12 COACHES:
5th Grade: Darrel Rich & Shawn Alexander + Micah Mitchell
6th Grade: Larry Prigg
7th Grade: Nolan Dixon & Kealii Aki
8th Grade: Troy Hennum & Tyler Thompson
Last season (2010-11) the TBirds earned 9th place in the 18-team WYBL league with a 33-35 record (.485). Highlights of the season included the end-of-season tournament championship earned by the 7th grade team (Class of 2016). The 8th graders (Class of 2015) also took home 3rd place hardware in the WYBL tournament.
The 2009-10 season, our program's 3rd year in the WYBL, the TBirds' combined team record was 45-27 (.625) which earned another 5th place finish, out of 19 teams. In 2010, three of our four teams brought home hardware in the WYBL end-of-season tournament. The 8th graders earned 4th place, the 7th graders earned 7th, and the 6th graders earned 8th place.
In the 2008-09 season, the program finished with a 38-22 (.630) record, also good for 5th place but in a smaller 16-team WYBL field. This was a significant improvement over the program's first year (2007-08), where our combined team record was 27-32 (.460), earning 10th place in the 16-team WYBL field. During the 2008-09 season, the 7th graders finished in 4th place and the 6th graders earned 7th place. The 5th & 8th graders finished just out of the running for a trophy, both ending up in 9th place.
In the program's first year (2007-08), two of our four teams also placed in the WYBL end-of-season tournament. The 5th grade team won the 2008 Championship and the 6th grade team earned 8th place. We are very proud of all the boys' efforts these past three years and we look forward to improving even more over the years to come with these talented and dedicated young athletes.
